This plastic oven melts candy pellets into molded hard candies with a low-watt bulb (40 watts, not included) and takes both chemical safety and burn hazards into account: The baking occurs at a low temperature and the oven door will not open until the oven and candy have cooled, and the molds themselves are made entirely of silicone, eliminating any risk of chemical leaching through direct contact between the edible "charms" and plastic parts. Consumers complain about the long bake time, however (about 90 minutes), for the production of a few small pieces at a time.

This JAKKS Pacific bath product lab includes jars of "Bath Bombs/Balls" or "Bath Fizzies" which were recalled by the CPSC for carbon dioxide buildup and exploding containers, injuring at least 13 consumers. JAKKS' negotiated solution to the problem was to add extra lids to the kit and instructions to change the lids at home; however, this solution means that the product as purchased does present the hazard of possible explosion if unmodified by the consumer, which presents a significant hazard to those of us who don't always read instructions or don't anticipate that a purchased product must be altered to avoid injury, or by children who are given the product to use without adult supervision.
